Unknown Souldier, an interview with Brother Terry
I am so proud to tell you about the most loving Christian and coolest rocker I’ve ever had the pleasure to speak with. They call him Brother Terry. His name is Terry and he really is a brother to every person he meets. But the name Brother Terry officially came from a producer that the band worked with on their first album. He said that Terry was like every ones brother plus that’s what he was called in church anyway so the nick name Brother Terry stuck with him.
Brother Terry is the lead singer of “Unknown Souldier. The band despite its name is well known to most music lovers. Terry and the guys have been together for over sixteen years. The band has always had a message of hope but uses that message to reach the lost.
The band got its name from a couple of bible texts. Terry says that one day reading Exodus 15:3 where it speaks of The Lord being a soldier and then reading Acts 17:23 which speak of the unknown god the same day he just put both scripture text together and the band had its name. Terry says that he took the word solder and applied the extra U for the soul aspect and there you have it the “Unknown Souldier”.
Terry is actually one of the first Christian artists who we’ve interviewed who admitted that he hadn’t grown up in a believing home. Most of the artist I’ve interviews are actually Pastors kids or have been raised in church their whole lives but Terry says he didn’t come to faith till he was about 28 years old. Terry said although his family grew up with a respect for God it wasn’t until his brother gave him a bible and after reading the book of Romans he found himself with the knowledge that he needed to confess Jesus Christ as his Savior and so gave his life to The Lord.
Terry grew up in New York were life was pretty rough for him back then. There was a little family dysfunction but praise be to God after his brother came to faith he and his eventually parents followed. With the salvation of his family came a lot of healing and now they are all part of the body of Christ together.
Terry is now a member of a “Liquid Church” which is a portable church in New Jersey. The church meets in different places but also meets online which helps the band to stay grounded in the faith when traveling.
Terry really is a brother to all he meets. But what makes Terry such a wonderful guy is that he is not only a rock star but a minister to those in need. The band helps people who have lost their way in life by way of addictions to get back on their feet with his outreach ministry. Terry uses the healing that came to his family to help others. Terry’s dad was a heavy drinker so he has a heart for those who also deal with life addictions. The really cool thing that Terry does in his outreach ministry is not just help people to make better life decisions but also help them to help themselves by teaching them labor skills to support themselves and their families.
