Christian music has truly grown in the past 30 years. The first time some Pastors heard Christian rock they dismissed and rejected it as Christian music. Now thankfully people have come to understand that just because you are reborn your taste and styles in music don’t just change to old hymns only. Those who were rockers before simply sing a new rock song that glorifies God. Christian music has gone from Rock to Rap and now from Rap to Funk.
NEWWORLDSON is Funk/Jazz or Soul Music band that simply plays Holy Soul music, its music that glorifies and praises the name of Jesus Christ. These four guys have a unique sound that is all their own but all for Christ. Joel (the bands lead singer) has a Motown voice with a Christian mind. His voice is like no other in Christian music and the band is like no other you have ever heard of in Christian music. The awesome thing about NEWWORLDSON is that there is no secular band that can match their talents in the Jazz/Funk genre of music.
Many times I interview artist who say they grew up in church their whole lives or that they had fathers who were pastors. For those of us who had it a little tougher it is always inspiring to hear about a Christian who learned about Christ and follows Him in spite of their rough beginnings. Talking to Joel was not just great as a Christian who got to hear his testimony but as a huge fan of the band.
Joel grew up like most of us these days from parents who split when he was a young age. His parents got divorced when he was only 8 years old. Both his mom and dad got remarried. Joel says that his family were not believers when they were together. So in the early years of his life he hadn’t known faith in Christ.
His dad was later brought to faith when he remarried a believer whose father was a pastor. His stepmother’s brother (Daniel) is still today Joel’s best friend heavily influenced Joel’s life. Daniel prayed for Joel and would always invite him to Christian events. And at the age of 20 Joel himself made a decision to follow Christ. Joel and the rest of the guys in the band are members of South Ridge Community Church in Canada where they all live. |
