Home Music This Month After Edmund

Mitch the lead singer of the band After Edmund is a really cool guy in a really awesome band. After Edmund, has seen a few changes in the past few years. They started as a give guy band but now they are four but you can’t tell it by the music. The awesome thing about these guys they are so versatile. Each once can play multiple instruments. After Edmund is not only a talented band but they are also amazing Christians who’s passion for The Lord is displayed in their music but who’s passion for music is displayed in every note.

I talked to Mitch for a really long time during an interview. Mitch told me a lot about the band and a little about himself. Check out what Mitch had to say when we talked.

Where you brought up in a Christian home?

Yea I was. Both of my parents loved Jesus. I was brought up in church. I was taught to love Jesus but I didn’t always. But they sure did instill a good foundation in me.

So what age were you when you personally came to faith for yourself aside from your family?

I don’t know? I did the whole raise your hands, everybody eyes closed and bow your head thing when I was about 12 or 13 in youth group. You know it’s really hard to pinpoint. I mean, yea, I prayed a prayer and everything like that but I certainly didn’t love Jesus. I wasn’t living like it and I was bearing any fruit. I wouldn’t say that I was a Christian at that point. Probably when I was about 15 or 16 would be probably the time that God really shook me up and got a hold of my life and He saved me. And I’ve kind of not looked back since.

So what happened at that age that made you feel like God was calling you?

I was in band in high school and one of my friends in band (we both play trumpet) his name is David. He’s a worship leader now. He was like “Hey we need a guy to come fill in, to play keyboard in the band that I’m in”. And I played keys. And we were really good friends so I was like yea sure. So I show up at the address where he told me and it was a church. And I was like “awe, I’m going to kill this kid”. I knew he was a Christian but we were still friends. Of course I’m from Georgia so everyone goes to church. I pull up and he like “please don’t, please don’t leave”! And I’m like “dude you dint tell me it was a church”. He said well I want you to play keys so I played that night. I had a really good time. God sort of used music to suck me in. And shortly thereafter I heard the gospel presented in a way that I guess God allowed me to listen to. For the first time I understood and I listened to it. I was like “Wow”! and I really did start falling in love with Jesus. God softened my heart and worked on me.

Where do you go to church now?

I’m moving actually. I live in a small town south of Atlanta and I went to a church called Sovereign Grace Church here.

So how do you stay grounded in the faith when you are on the road?

A lot of different ways, I know I hear a lot of musicians say stuff like it’s really hard to be close to Jesus on the road and stay in The Word and I just don’t get that because I feel like if it’s hard for you on the road it’s probably going to be hard for you at home. If you’re not the kind of person to study when you are traveling I don’t see how you can do it when you are at home. Honestly it’s really easy for me. We travel around to places where people are all fired up for Jesus all the time and we see what God’s doing in all these places and you’re around people that just have an exciting love for God and it just rubs off. You have to make time of course to study. You make time in your day just like you would when it’s your time. You have to spend time in The Word and let God speak to your heart. On this particular tour we do a bible study as a group the whole tour. Everybody that’s on the tour we get together every day and we do a bible study and we pray together. It’s awesome. It’s kind of like iron sharpens iron kind of thing. Matt our drummer will be studying and I will be like “dude, what are you studying”? and we’ll just start talking about stuff. And talking about what God’s doing in his life. I guess just like normal Christians are.
