Home Music This Month Decemberadio

Decemberadio is an awesome Christian Rock band whose mission is to spread the message of Jesus Christ through their music. Josh, Eric, Boone, and Brian are passionate about making amazing music but whose first love is Jesus Christ and telling the word about it. In an interview with Brian we learned about how the band met, what ministries they are involved in, how they got their name, and about the live DVD you can pick up on their website.

Where you raised as a Christian?

Yes I was, I came to Christ about the age of 8 but I didn’t truly live and understand what it meant until I was abound the age of 16.

I was blessed with wonderful parents. They were a great support especially when it came to music they let us have band practice in the living room till up to 3 or 4 in the morning. They were always very loving and supportive of anything that I wanted to do. And of cause taught us great Christian values and took us to church and we are still very close to them today.

How did the band meet?

Josh, who is the singer and I grew up together since kindergarten. We both started playing instruments at the age of 11 and in middle school we had a little band together and were playing top 40 songs with another guy who was the drummer. We felt like God was calling us to lead in worship and write our own songs. When we graduated high school we went on the road with an evangelist from Tennessee. We played for his band for a while. He sort of mentored us. Through those travels we met Eric the guitar player in the band. Then we got our drummers number from our producer Scotty Willbanks he plays keys for “Third Day” and we started playing together and that made it complete.

How do you stay grounded in the faith when you travel?

We like to take Bill (the evangelist) out with us from time to time as the road Pastor. We sit down as a band and talk, pray, and read our bibles together and personally a combination of those things together help to hold us accountable.

Where do you go to church?

I go to a church called New Horizons. It’s a new church with a lot of young couples that my wife and I get to hang out with. Unfortunately we don’t get to go that much. Our church families do call and check on us. We get to keep in touch with them, so that helps.

How did you get the name of the band?

We were setting in a worship conference and we looked across the room and there was a calendar and it was opened to the month of December and it was sitting on top of a radio. That’s as simple as it is. There is no deep meaning behind it. We were just kind of throwing out ideas and saw the calendar sitting on the radio and just said Decemberradio and that was it.

What’s been you guys’ biggest challenge as a Christian Rock band?

Being on the road from family is definitely tough. Being away from my wife is hard and a lot of sleepless nights are tough. One of the things about a Christian rock band is when people label you. A lot of times when people who are not Christians when they here you are a Christian rock band they won’t give it a chance or listen to you. so sometimes that’s frustrating but what keeps us going is the cool stories that we hear on the road of the lives we are changing and the people that will give it a chance. We had some people come to us the other day at a show and said that was what brought them back to church and helped save their marriage. So when you hear stories like that you know you’re really making a difference so that makes it all worth it.
